BROWSING:  Thoughts

From its beginnings 67 years ago, Flint’s WJRT-TV Channel 12 stood apart from the other local television stations that signed on to serve mid-Michigan in the 1950s.

We Americans love fast food. And most of us also love food that is fast (there’s a difference).

Gift cards seem to be the perfect present for many folks on our Christmas and end-of-year holiday buying lists. Nine in 10 Americans say a physical gift card is an appropriate gift, and we don’t have to worry about choosing the right size or color.

A TV engineer or director.

Imagine going to your job each day not knowing what challenges and tasks await you. Then, coming back to work the next day will likely be totally different for you.

I scream, you scream, we ALL scream for ice cream!

For me, June is the month of love and happiness. The weather is warm, the flowers are in full bloom and the days are bright and sunny. Not only is June my birth month, it is the month in which three of my grandchildren were born. Believe me, that’s a lot of birthday cake and joyful celebrations! My grandson Elijah and my granddaughter were both born on June 6 and my oldest grandson Brennan was born on June 19.

Well, in a couple weeks, my family will celebrate another exciting milestone. My oldest grandson, Brennan, is graduating from Michigan Technological University (MTU) in Houghton! Not only is he graduating, he received an amazing job offer in Rochester, MN and will be moving there to start his new life. Time just flies too fast, doesn’t it? It seems like it was only yesterday that he graduated from high school.

The month of April is a time of new beginnings. Daffodils and tulips are the first flowers to emerge and bloom after a long cold winter, bringing a burst of color to the cold, brown landscape. Weather in Michigan can be unpredictable this month, but there are typically those welcome days that are warmer with the sun shining bright.

Are you ready for one of the most exciting sporting events of the year? This year, Super Bowl LIX will take place on February 9 in one of my favorite cities: New Orleans. And while it is not known at the time of this writing what teams will play for the coveted Lombardi Trophy, it is always exciting to watch the best of the best do battle.

January 4 is National Spaghetti Day. While it shows up on the National Day list, it isn’t a “real” National Day, which takes an act of Congress, and no one knows who invented it or when it was first celebrated. But I don’t care! I love spaghetti and will happily celebrate it!

The magic of Christmas is upon us! Houses decorated with sparkling lights and festive wreaths line the streets and Christmas music is playing on every radio station. Stores are bustling with shoppers in search of the perfect gifts for their loved ones. The rich scent of pine lingers from Christmas trees adorned with colorful ornaments.
